![]() I got reeled in like a sucker, with the whole time travel thing, and then the beautiful Scotland landscape, I was getting into it, and then BAM.I thought someone has spliced a porno film into this. I wasn't too sure if I wanted to invest any time in this, had not heard about it, I had lots of time to kill being at home healing from a long illness so what he heck. I always look for something different that has lots of episodes as it is like reading a epic novel that spans the decades. I am a history buff and I have watched just about all the period pieces on both Netflix and Prime. I especially enjoy when filmed in beautiful setting like Scotland. If you like those, watch "Marie Antoinette" or "The Duchess" instead! Oh, and the woman gets some great costumes. I may be wrong, but thankfully, there are no torture scenes between women and women! That's as good as it get in this horrible epic. ![]() And I certainly wouldn't want my kids watching such horrors, since they are just forming their ideas about the relationships between men and women, or if they're Gay (as the lord is), men and men. I wouldn't recommend that anyone watch this, regardless of age. I stopped watching during that bit, when the husband is imprisoned by the lord and tortured and raped, most graphically. There are so many rape and near-rape scenes, not just men-on-women but men-on-men, and prolonged rape/torture scenes in a dungeon, that I can't (nor do I WANT to!) sort them all out. Then the scenes of brutality start, some on the battlefield, others in the castle (husbands hitting wives or servant girls) and still others involving a horrible, sick "Lord", who has a grievance against the main hero. He calls her this throughout the series, even after they marry. I was ready to love this show, but then, she is immediately captured and nearly raped by a thug, but gets rescued by a handsome Scot who keeps calling her "Sassenach" (Outlander in Gaelic). She wanders into a stone circle (like Stonehenge but smaller) and is transported back into the 1700's, just before the Battle of Culloden, between the Scots and the English. This show starts out as interesting and alluring, when a married woman goes to her husbands home in Scotland in the 1940's. I can never recommend this TV Series now. And by not allowing the audience the respect and freedom to let their own imaginations wander to a personal limit without inflicting emotional pain and exposure to images not easy to forget shows a lack of responsibility as a Director, and certainly no moral compass. ![]() Using seasoned actors for upscale pornography scenes made me question their choices to play these scenes. I blame the Director here for not respecting and protecting both the viewers and actors. The story in intriguing and with a remote to FF the many scenes. This series certainly had all the right elements going in, and then spoiled them thinking more is better. ![]() Most people will not want to expose themselves to such images, whether it’s fictional make-believe or not. Imagine a picture of an abused puppy, then imagine sitting and watching as the abuse occurs. And the continental thread of over the sexualized scenes, combined brutal graphic torture scenes, can leave you feeling sick inside. This can leave viewers who’ve chosen to watch a period drama, feel as if they’re watching a smut film as the scenes go on, and on, and on. Yeah, we get the point, now, why are you still filming, comes to mind. The love scenes unfortunately are mostly pornographic in nature and much longer than is necessary. The story, the acting, the cinematography, is all excellent.
